March 22nd, 2015 The RUN is 10 out of 11 Weeks

Waist high or better, at least once a week. There was
head high surf on Sunday the 15th, and on Monday the 16th.

The LAST Winter Swell of 2015, Welcome Spring, And
The Strange World of Robert Durst. Seriously? Oh yeah.

The waves on Monday would end up being the LAST winter swell of 2015. The winter ended on Friday March 20th, 2015 at 6:45PM when the Spring Equinox rolled in. So to actually have a decent swell on Monday, was a perfect ending to an amazing winter.

Speaking of perfect. This is what Monday looked like. It was all of head high and yes, it was this hollow. It was actually punishing at this particular spot. But that didn't stop the local crew from pushing the pedal to the metal. The ones they didn't make were painful. But the ones they did? Oh those were oh so sweet.

I made a new short clip from this spot and the first thing you will notice is how GREEN the water looked. It looked almost tropical. That's looked, not felt. Because your typical March water temps can be deceiving. Every March and well into April, the water temps remain low. It's like Mother Ocean didn't get the notice to warm up.

So beware you new surfers. Just because it's warm on the beach does not mean it's warm out in the water. Keep wearing hoods until the water temp rises into the high 40's. Duck diving cold waves is no fun when you have no hood on your cranium. You all know the old saying: "Kill the head, and the body will die."

This was clearly the winter to head for the tropics. Lots of you did just that. Dave "Crop" Cropper and Phil Carey from Cinnamon Rainbows just came back from a dream trip in Costa Rica. They stayed with Robert August, and scored some insane waves with Robert's son Sam and his young son Tommy. Little Tommy is just 7 years old.

Can you imagine being 7 years old and surfing waves like this?.

Speaking of the tropics my son Max left this week for PR and has been scoring surf since he got there. I'll be putting the PR movie together by mid Spring so stay tuned.

Check this poster out below. Just click on the image to see a larger version so you can read it better.

And please feel free to share. I insist. Bonehead.

Local surfer/comic/actor Jimmy Dunn has two big shows this week. One in Beverly, MA and the other at the Music Hall in Portsmouth.
that are both within driving range for all New Englanders.

This Saturday is the ROAST of Jimmy Dunn. This is going to be one hell of a night. We'll be there. Hope to see you all this Saturday.

Maybe we should make JIMMY the state's first official comic. Hmm, that might be worth looking into. Then maybe I could be the state's first official blogger. Damn, I think I'm onto something here. Nope.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
I have to admit, I really got hooked on the the HBO series based on Robert "Bob" Durst. I have never been a fan of NYC and those who live there. The whole Boston vs New York rivalry. Their accents have always rubbed me the wrong way. But I must say,
my wife and I became fascinated by this strange man.
Boy is he one wacked individual.

Kudos to Andrew Jarecki who produced the HBO series the
JINX. It was so well produced. Watch it on HBO.

Below is a scene from his first NOT Guilty verdict.

I'm really sorry, but this had to be done.

As always, my weekly humiliation of KSM knows no boundaries.
Here we see KSM getting between Bibi and Baracky.
No love lost there.

So once again, please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're welcome KSM fans.

Yesterday- "Surf Family Fatello" Costa Rica 2003
(Below) I can't tell you how many times in the last few years that I have longed for these days. Such innocence and closeness. Our first real tropical family surf trip. We surfed Ollies, Playa Negra, and Tamarindo. We had such a great time. And I suppose the seed was planted in young Mackey because he has been on so many surf trips since he became of age to travel alone. But I still miss these days. All you parents with young kids, enjoy the times you are all together. Because it does not last forever.

THE LAST WINTER STORM of 2015. Shot on Monday, March 16th, 2015

This will end up being the last Winter Storm of 2015. Starting on Sunday March 15th, 2015 the snow gave us a NEW record for snowfall in one season. The next day Monday March 16th, 2015 gave way to blue skies, and green waves, with brisk offshore winds.

The surfers were: Casey Lockwood, Matt Colby, Weston Rogers, Jared Hay, Kyle Linseman, Britt Swartley, and Max Fatello. The music is by my nephew Jesse QWILL Ciarmataro. It was recorded live and Jesse is playing all the instruments. *Listen to his guitar riffs. A special nod to his uncles Ralph and Johnny. I also shot a bunch of stills today. Hope you enjoy this last Winter Swell of 2015.

Ralph

USUAL SUSPECTS by Tamayo Perry

I blew out my knee surfing Pipeline a few days prior to this session. Not being able to surf, I decided to test my injury by swimming out with my fins and water camera on the new rising 8 to 10 foot swell. Here are the fruits of my labor, fully edited to music for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy in 1080p!
